I did my 2,500th Peloton ride today a year and one day after riding my 1,500th ride. It’s a little misleading because nowadays I do more shorter rides at a time, either 2 (30-minute + 20-minute) or 3 (20 + 20 + 10-minute) rides. It seems like Peloton does fewer 45-minute these days than they used to, which used to be the norm back in the early days.
I remember when I was tired of using our elliptical machine, that I’d been using for 7 years or so, and was looking for something new. I’ve always liked cycling and wished there was an exercise bike, but in my experience, there wasn’t a good one. But there was a new small company called Peloton that had an interesting bike with a screen on it. It was for spinning classes, something I’d never done and didn’t even like the idea: do what you’re told to do when they tell you to do it. Nevertheless, on November 20, 2016 I ordered it. It was delivered on November 26, 2016 and I did my first two rides and rode it practically every day since. I did my 5th annual Thanksgiving “Turkey Burn” ride yesterday.
I’ve done 1,982 rides and I’m on a 125-week streak. We added a Peloton Tread in February 2020. The bike has been maintenance-free too, I’ve never had a problem with it and aside from wiping it down after I use it, it doesn’t require any maintenance at all. I’ve watched the company grow and become a household name, I’ve seen instructors come and go, some of which have become minor celebrities, I’ve bought several pieces of Peloton apparel (which are all high quality), I beta-tested their new cycling shoes this year which they let me keep and I bought 20 shares of PTON stock several months ago. I’m a fan.
Coincidentally, they’re having a Black Friday sale for $350 off the new Bike+ and $700 off for trading in my current bike. So on my 5th anniversary, I treated myself to the new bike. It’s scheduled for delivery in 7 days, December 3rd.
I did my 1500th Peloton ride. A few days ago, I also reached 10,000 “miles” for the year.
I did my 1,400th Peloton ride today with my favorite instructor, Jenn Sherman, and for the first time I made a video of my “shout-out”.
She says “Let’s do it the right way…” because before the ride started she practically talked to me about my 1400th ride and said she’d do the shout-out during the ride too. She has a good memory, it’s as if she knows me. Incidentally, she is the very first instructor they hired at Peloton.
I did my 1,300th Peloton ride, which included a Slayer song. I also have 44 runs on the Tread so far.
I am not made for running either — one 20-minute run at just 5.0mph is about all I can do right now. But using the Tread on my off-bike days means I get a Peloton activity every day of the week making it possible to earn more challenge medals. 😛
Our Peloton Tread was delivered and installed this morning. It’s mostly for Gay but I tried a walk and a run on it. The bigger screen is great and the speakers are good enough to not require headphones.
I did my 1,100th Peloton ride today: Jess King’s 80s Ride. I got the first shout-out of the ride too. 🤓
After a late-ish night with friends Edie & Zach for dinner last night, I got up at 6:30am to ride Jenn Sherman’s NFL Pregame Ride at 7am and do my 1,000th (“millenniumth”) Peloton ride. It’s fun to get a shout-out during live rides for hitting milestones and I got 3 – one in the first few minutes and two at the end. More threes: I finished 3rd and picked up 3 followers.
Ride 900 today. Onward to 1000!
