Eva’s 4.5

Eva is 4.5 today. Gay and I are both 45, or 10x older than Eva — we have each lived a decade for every year she has lived. There was no time when that has been true of any of our kids and, if my math is correct and none of us ever use time dilation by traveling in space, never will be true again.

Eva’s Crash

Eva had a big spill at school today, running and falling on pavement, giving her abrasions on her chin and knees and really banged her front teeth and gums. Gay had to go get her and take her to the dentist for a checkup on her teeth. Fortunately, her permanent teeth appear to be okay and shouldn’t be affected. A 2nd dental checkup coming next week.

Eva’s 4th birthday

Eva turned 4 today. She’s been excited for weeks to turn 4 but this morning when I asked her about how she felt, she said she wishes she was 3 again. I expect that from a 40 year-old but not a 4 year-old — she’s so mature.

She got to pick anything she wanted for dinner. She chose salami, cheese and crackers so that’s what we ate; she has simple needs. Then she opened her presents from family: clothes, stuffed animals, a necklace, Frozen figures.

4 years ago today we all met her for the first time. 3 years ago. 2 years ago. 1 year ago

Eva’s 4th birthday party

We had Eva’s birthday party this afternoon. Her entire preschool class came. Kelly, her first nanny, came over from Vashon too. Eva does not even remember her, although Havana and Hudson do.

We had Animal Encounters bring animals, including bunny rabbits, a baby wallaby and a chinchilla. Eva got to feed the baby wallaby.

Halloween

The kids dressed as Harry Potter characters. Hudson was Harry Potter, Havana was Hermione and Eva was Crookshanks, Hermione’s cat. The kids with Gerene and Cheryl:

This was the first year they all went up to the doors by themselves, we could stay on the sidewalk. They were all excited about sorting their candy and, of course, eating it and that lasted through the next morning too. After that, they forgot about the candy, just like previous years.
