My 86 year-old mom had a mini-stroke (a TIA) yesterday. She seems to be okay now but it was scary. She had a healthy life so far so I was surprised when my brother texted me with the news.
She spent the night in the hospital for tests and then came home today. She was conscious throughout and even made the 911 call herself, which I feel is a good sign.
Her MRI showed good results. Apparently she stopped taking aspirin a week or so ago because she read an article that aspirin could cause heart attacks, without consulting her doctor. They think this is why she had a blood clot that caused the stroke. She now has to take aspirin everyday again. One article does not make a scientific fact.
The American Stroke Assn link is a good one. The Mayo Clinic has a great rundown on causes, symptoms and things to do to prevent TIA’s, too. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/transient-ischemic-attack/symptoms-causes/syc-20355679
