Hudson (kind of) helped me make my favorite Greek food, Pastitsio, today. We listened to Greek music while we cooked, which Hudson thought was weird and annoying. The food turned out great and was dinner for 2 nights.
Month: February 2019
We celebrated our 3rd anniversary today. We served over 3,700 beers – 1,180 liters, or more than 10 barrels! That’s more than 5 beers every minute.
The top-selling beer was our Triple Hazy IPA anniversary beer. We gave away 300 anniversary glasses and raised over $1,100 in a raffle for Capitol Hill Housing.
Schools were closed yesterday too and there was a 2-hour delay today. They just have school tomorrow and then have next week off for “mid-winter break”. If only the snow was better scheduled for next week!
Anticipating a couple days without school and childcare, Edie (Fiona’s mom) organized an impromptu group of activities. All the kids went to one house and did crafts this morning, then they all came to our house for foosball, ping pong, trampoline, snow cone-making and a movie.
Fiona, Eva and Iris:
It continued to snow all afternoon, the view from my office:
We lost power for about 15 seconds which may be foreshadowing a longer outage if the coming rain turns into freezing rain.
By 4pm the snow seems to be about done. 13 inches/33cm. This is the most snow I’ve experienced in my 22 years in Seattle.
5:47pm: It’s official, Seattle Schools are closed tomorrow.
Schools have already been closed for tomorrow, the snow started right on time and we’re expecting 1-2 inches tonight then a bigger storm tomorrow night. Schools may be closed all week!
We invited a bunch of neighbors over so the 13 (!) kids could all watch a movie while the adults had cocktails.
Havana had Hanna sleepover and Eva had Fiona and Iris sleepover. Hudson spent the night at Bowie’s.
We woke up to 6+ inches of snow, the most snow in Seattle since December 1996 (a few months before I moved here).
Ohana spent the night with us and we had cinnamon rolls for breakfast. Hudson spent the night at Tobin’s last night and we didn’t see him all day while he went sledding, thanks to his new waterproof boots, and having snowball fights. Too much Fortnite too, I assume.
I drove Havana to Hanna’s house in the afternoon and the non-arterial roads were still slippery.
After a bit of discussion with our staff we decided to open the brewery at 4pm. There was a line of people outside before 4 waiting to get some beer! #beerculture
I decided to break out the sous vide machine and make steaks for dinner. The kids weren’t impressed but I thought they were great. I want to do more.
We’re expecting more snow tomorrow and I doubt schools will be open on Monday or Tuesday. Then more snow Thursday/Friday!
Seattle schools closed 75 minutes early today, just as the snow started. I picked Hudson and Eva up and Tobin and Ohana came home with us. The kids basically had 2 days of school this week.
The kids got today off from school too. They played outside, made cookies and then had friends over to watch movies and eat popcorn.
It’s been on my ToDo list for months – I finally got around to posting my towel hook design on this site and on Thingiverse. I hope someone gets some use out of it or someone improves on it.
We didn’t get any snow all winter until yesterday and then 3-4 inches overnight. Schools were closed today after first announcing last night they’d be delayed 2 hours. I did some work, started a 3D print and then took Hudson, Havana and her friend, Hanna, out sledding. I also took the Discovery out for its first snow experience.
